Sadio Mane, the Senegalese midfielder for Al-Nassr, drew attention after an incident with Al-Ain supporters prior to their AFC Champions League match at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium on September 15.

Al-Nassr faced a heavy 4-0 loss against Al-Ain, despite having their captain, the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo, on the field. Ronaldo struggled to find his form during the match, while Houssine Rahimi scored twice, with additional goals from Soufiane Rahimi and Giorgos Giakoumakis, leading the hosts to a decisive victory.

This result allowed Al-Ain to seize the early lead in the tournament standings, pushing Al-Nassr to the bottom, marking a disappointing start for the reigning champions of the Saudi Pro League.

Mane's Reaction to Messi Chants Goes Viral

During the match, the atmosphere turned tense as Al-Ain fans attempted to unsettle Ronaldo by chanting Lionel Messi's name repeatedly.

A viral video captured Ronaldo leading his team onto the pitch for warm-ups when a section of the crowd began chanting Messi's name, seemingly to distract the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Mane, visibly upset, approached the stands, gesturing for the fans to stop the Messi chants directed at Ronaldo. In contrast, Ronaldo responded to the taunts with laughter and applause, appearing unfazed by the situation.

Coach Takes Accountability for the Loss

The significant defeat has sparked discussions, marking Ronaldo's most substantial loss since joining Al-Nassr from Manchester United in 2022.

Al-Nassr's coach, Ange Postecoglou, defended Ronaldo, highlighting that he had already netted three goals despite limited pre-season preparation. He accepted full responsibility for the team's performance, emphasizing that Ronaldo continues to inspire his teammates.

"Cristiano has scored three goals already. He had limited preparation due to the World Cup. This isn't about the players," Postecoglou stated in the post-match press conference.

"The players are giving their all, and they are top-tier athletes with great character. The responsibility lies with me. Criticizing Ronaldo is unwarranted for someone who sets an example for everyone. You can criticize me, but not him," he added.

Ronaldo is set to return to the field when Al-Nassr faces Diriyah Club in their first Saudi Pro League match at Alawwal Park on October 9.
