Sacramento County Regional Parks has revealed plans for a series of controlled burns throughout various park areas in June. This initiative aims to mitigate wildfire risks and enhance the health of local ecosystems. The burns will be conducted in collaboration with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and the City of Sacramento Fire Department.

Officials indicated that these operations will occur under strict supervision to effectively manage hazardous vegetation, aid in firefighter training, and ensure the long-term vitality of the park ecosystems. The designated burn sites include the Woodlake section of the American River Parkway from June 7 to 9, Dry Creek Parkway starting as early as June 11, Illa M. Collin Preserve from June 17, and Gene Andal Park from June 22.

Regional Parks noted that the schedule may be adjusted based on weather patterns, air quality, and operational needs. Liz Bellas, the Regional Parks Director, emphasized, "Prescribed fire is a crucial method for reducing hazardous vegetation, safeguarding nearby communities, and fostering healthier park ecosystems. These initiatives also offer essential training for our local fire agencies."
