S Jaishankar's Bold Retort to Pakistani Journalist at UN: A Clash Over Terrorism

A Tense Exchange at the United Nations

United Nations: On Friday, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a pointed response to a question posed by a Pakistani journalist regarding terrorism.

Jaishankar's reply was direct: "A terrorist country is asking me that question. Come on," he asserted, emphasizing the irony of the inquiry.

This exchange occurred during a press briefing at the UN headquarters, where Jaishankar and Liberia's Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, were addressing the Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers.

Following their statements, the Pakistani journalist interrupted, demanding to know, "When will your government stop sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan?"

In response, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, firmly stated to the journalist, "You have heard your reply. You have heard your response, loud and clear."

Earlier, an Indian journalist had posed a similar question to Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as he arrived at the UN, asking, "When will you stop harbouring terrorists?"
