Russian Doctor Faces Mental Torture in Pune: Disturbing Case of Harassment

Pune, often referred to as the cultural capital of Maharashtra, has become a site of mental torment for a foreign female doctor. The 43-year-old Russian dermatologist has endured a year of fear and psychological harassment in the upscale area of Viman Nagar. Her troubling experiences have now been documented in police reports, highlighting issues beyond mere stalking, touching on violations of personal privacy and mental peace.

The accused, identified as 32-year-old Vikas Kumar, is an engineer by profession. Ironically, despite his education, his behavior resembled that of a criminal. He resides in the same housing society as the victim. According to police reports, Vikas has been persistently stalking the woman for the past year, beginning his harassment under the guise of casual conversation.

Harassment and Disturbing Comments

The victim's account of her ordeal is chilling. Not only did the accused stalk her, but he also made inappropriate and uncomfortable remarks about her appearance. She recounted an instance where he stated, 'I take pride in having a fair neighbor.' While these words may seem innocuous, for a foreign woman living alone in a different country, they were a direct form of racial and gender harassment. Whenever she took a walk in the society's premises, Vikas would follow her like a shadow, ignoring her repeated requests to stop.

The situation escalated when Vikas crossed boundaries and reached the lobby of her apartment. This incident left the woman feeling deeply unsafe in her own home. Despite her attempts to warn him to cease his actions, the engineer remained undeterred, increasing his intrusive behavior.

Legal Action and Police Response

Finally, overwhelmed by the ongoing mental torture, the woman approached the Pune Airport police for help. DCP Somay Munde confirmed that her detailed statement has been recorded, and a case has been filed against Vikas Kumar for stalking and intimidation. The police are also investigating whether the accused used any digital means to further harass the woman.
