Russia Warns Against Alliances Targeting North Korea During Lavrov's Visit

Russia's Strong Warning to the US, Japan, and South Korea
During his recent visit to North Korea, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov cautioned the United States, Japan, and South Korea against forming any alliances that could be perceived as hostile towards North Korea or Russia. He expressed concerns that the increasing military collaboration among these three nations appears to be part of a dangerous strategy aimed at encircling both North Korea and Russia.
Joint Military Exercises Raise Concerns
Recently, the US, Japan, and South Korea conducted joint military drills near the Korean Peninsula, which included American bombers equipped with nuclear capabilities. Both Russia and North Korea view this as an indication that these countries are establishing a new security bloc that targets them.
Lavrov's Call for Restraint
Lavrov emphasized the growing military and economic cooperation between Russia and North Korea in recent years. He noted that North Korea has provided not only ammunition but reportedly also military personnel to assist Russia in the Ukraine conflict. Following their meeting, Lavrov firmly stated that the US, Japan, and South Korea should rein in their military drills and coalition activities, warning against using these relationships to target any single nation or bloc, including North Korea and Russia.
Support for North Korea's Nuclear Program
Lavrov also expressed Russia's backing for North Korea's efforts to develop nuclear weapons, stating that this technology is a result of the hard work of North Korean scientists. He acknowledged their rationale for pursuing nuclear capabilities as a means of self-defense against potential attacks from the US.
Acknowledgment of North Korea's Support in Ukraine
In his remarks, Lavrov mentioned North Korea's assistance during the Ukraine war, highlighting the support received from North Korean troops in thwarting Ukrainian attacks at the Kursk border. He expressed gratitude for this collaboration. The meeting took place in Wonsan, a resort city in North Korea that has recently been developed to promote tourism. Lavrov discussed plans to open new avenues for Russian tourists, indicating that Russia would facilitate travel, including air travel, to this destination.
