RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Discusses Path to Peace in Manipur Amidst Ethnic Tensions
Mohan Bhagwat's Insights on Manipur's Ethnic Conflicts
On Sunday, Mohan Bhagwat, the leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), addressed the ongoing ethnic conflicts in Manipur, stating that resolving the differences among the warring groups will take time. However, he assured that peace would eventually prevail in the northeastern state.
During his recent visit to Manipur, Bhagwat engaged in discussions with various tribal and social leaders, as well as youth representatives. He emphasized that the unrest is primarily a law and order issue, which is gradually diminishing and is expected to resolve within a year.
He remarked, 'Merging people's opinions is a significant task that will require time.' Bhagwat highlighted that the only solution lies in dialogue and bringing the groups to a consensus.
Speaking at an event commemorating the centenary of the RSS, he expressed optimism, noting that this can be achieved as the foundational spirit already exists. Similar efforts have been made in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland.
Bhagwat mentioned that there are nearly 100 RSS branches in Manipur and reiterated that peace will ultimately be established, though he acknowledged that it will take time.
When asked during a lecture and dialogue session why the RSS maintains distance from the BJP's top leadership, Bhagwat clarified that the RSS has historically kept a certain distance from the BJP. He stated, 'We maintain a significant distance from all BJP leaders.'
He also added, 'We have always been close to Narendra Bhai (Prime Minister Modi) and Amit Bhai (Home Minister Shah). Both leaders are considered close to the organization, with Modi having previously served as a pracharak for the RSS.'
Bhagwat urged not to pay attention to rumors regarding the relationship between the RSS and BJP leadership, asserting that the RSS is a transparent organization that does not hide its associations, regardless of the political entity.
