Royal Caribbean Cancels Over 20 Summer Cruises in 2027
Cruise Cancellations Announced
Royal Caribbean International has announced the cancellation of more than 20 cruises scheduled for the summer of 2027. These sailings, which were set to take place from May to September, were all planned aboard the Freedom of the Seas. Passengers received notifications via email regarding these unexpected cancellations. The cruise line explained that this decision is part of its routine itinerary adjustments. According to reports, the ship will be relocated to Southampton in 2027, resulting in a change of operational region and the subsequent cancellation of previously booked trips.
Reasons Behind the Cancellations
Why Were Cruises Cancelled?
The cruise line stated that its deployment strategies frequently adapt based on factors such as demand, capacity, and fleet requirements. When a vessel is assigned to a new home port, its routes are altered, rendering earlier itineraries unfeasible. The cancelled cruises included a variety of popular routes, from 9-night journeys to Aruba and Curaçao to shorter 5-night excursions to the Dominican Republic and Perfect Day at CocoCay, as well as 4-night trips to the Bahamas. All these planned itineraries will no longer proceed as initially scheduled.
Options for Affected Travelers
What Options Do Affected Passengers Have?
To assist impacted travelers, Royal Caribbean has provided several alternatives. Some guests will be transferred to different sailings, including voyages on the Wonder of the Seas departing from Miami. Other options include trips on the Adventure of the Seas or the Jewel of the Seas. For those who prefer not to rebook, full refunds will be issued, covering both the cruise fare and any prepaid services. The company has reached out directly to guests and travel partners with specific details regarding their choices. This announcement follows similar actions by another major cruise line, which recently cancelled 11 sailings on the Carnival Firenze, scheduled between October and November 2026. Carnival also offered affected passengers the chance to rebook or receive a full refund, with some cases including onboard credits for future cruises.
