Roshibina Devi has clinched a silver medal in Wushu at the Asian Games currently taking place in Japan. Her mother, Naorem Ongbi Romila Devi, disclosed that Roshibina was battling the flu prior to her departure for the competition. In the women's sanda 60 kg final held in Aichi-Nagoya on Thursday, Roshibina faced off against China's Zhang Xiaoyu, marking her second consecutive silver medal at the Asian Games. She lost both rounds with a score of 0-5, with the Chinese competitor winning the match 2-0, according to reports.

Mother Shares Concerns

In a conversation with a news outlet following her daughter's achievement, Naorem expressed her mixed feelings, stating, "As a mother, I am not entirely satisfied with a silver medal instead of gold, but I don't want to dampen her spirits by voicing my disappointment. Despite her illness, she showed immense courage to compete." The family celebrated Roshibina's success with joy, gathering to cheer her on.

Historic Milestone in Wushu

Roshibina has made history by becoming the first Indian woman to earn three consecutive medals in Wushu at the Asian Games, having previously secured a bronze in 2018. Her performance in Japan has been commendable, including a victory over the 2023 world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy from Vietnam.

In the semi-finals, she triumphed over Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas with a score of 2-0, earning her spot in the final.

India's Medal Count

With this achievement, India has reached a total of 14 medals at the ongoing Asian Games, which includes one gold and six silver medals, along with seven bronze medals.
