Rodriguinho Shines with Five Goals in SC Delhi's 7-0 Victory at Durand Cup
Rodriguinho's Spectacular Debut
In a stunning display, Brazilian forward Rodriguinho made a remarkable entrance into Indian football by scoring five goals as SC Delhi triumphed over Defenders FC with a score of 7-0 during the 135th Durand Cup at Birsa Munda Stadium on Friday.
This impressive performance marked his first start for SC Delhi, where he was joined on the scoresheet by Mohammed Aimen and substitute Juan Sebastian Pena. The victory propelled SC Delhi to the top of Group C, earning them six points from two matches and bringing them closer to the quarterfinals. In contrast, Defenders FC ended their group stage without any points, suffering their third consecutive defeat.
Tactical Changes and Dominance
SC Delhi's head coach, Tomasz Tchorz, made two key changes to the lineup, introducing Rodriguinho and Colombian forward Duvan Mina, while C.P Wanigasooriya of Defenders FC opted for a single change, bringing in S. Aravinraj.
Rodriguinho's Hat-Trick in Quick Succession
SC Delhi started the match with incredible energy, taking a three-goal lead within the first 13 minutes. Rodriguinho showcased his talent with a quick hat-trick, beginning with a skillful left-footed finish after expertly controlling a pass. He quickly added to his tally with another left-footed shot following a well-placed through ball from Mohammed Aimen. His hat-trick was completed shortly after, finishing a low cross from Yanglem Sanatomba Singh.
First Half Control
In the 34th minute, SC Delhi extended their lead to 4-0, with Aimen scoring after receiving a perfectly timed long ball from Lalrinliana Hnamte. The first half saw SC Delhi dominate possession with 61%, taking nine shots on goal, four of which found the net. Defenders FC struggled offensively, managing only one shot before halftime, which narrowly missed the target.
Defenders FC's Resilience
After halftime, SC Delhi made two substitutions, bringing on Juan Sebastian Pena and Mohammed Kaif. Pena quickly became a key player, testing the Defenders FC goalkeeper T.S. Priyashan with two powerful shots. Defenders FC appeared more organized in the second half, effectively disrupting SC Delhi's rhythm and limiting their clear chances.
Defenders FC finally registered their first shot on target in the 85th minute, but it was comfortably saved by SC Delhi's Nora Fernandes. SC Delhi's Thokchom Diamond Singh nearly added to the score, showcasing his skills but was denied by another fine save from Priyashan.
Final Goals Seal the Victory
In the closing moments, SC Delhi added to their tally as Rodriguinho scored his fourth goal in the 89th minute with a curling shot from the edge of the box. Substitute Juan Sebastian Pena followed suit in stoppage time, scoring after dribbling past two defenders. Rodriguinho capped off his extraordinary performance with a fifth goal in the fifth minute of added time, concluding the match with a dominant 7-0 victory.
