RJD Announces Candidate for Upcoming By-Election

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has officially named Sonu Kumar Rai as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Bhojpur-Sah-Buxar constituency of the Bihar Legislative Council. In a press release issued on April 10, the RJD announced that the Election Commission has set the date for the by-election in the Bhojpur-Buxar local authority constituency.


 


According to the decision made by the Bihar RJD, Sonu Kumar Rai, son of former MLC Lal Das Rai and a resident of Ward No. 6, Ara Nagar, Mirganj, Banstal village, has been declared the official candidate of the party.


 


Election Details Announced


On the social media platform X, the party further confirmed Sonu Kumar Rai's candidacy for the by-election in the Bhojpur-Sah-Buxar constituency. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Thursday that the by-election will take place on May 12, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 14. This seat became vacant after former MLC Radha Charan Sah was elected from the Sendh constituency in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.


 


Upcoming Election Timeline


According to a press release from the Election Commission, the official notification for the by-election will be issued on April 16. The deadline for submitting nomination papers is set for April 6, 2026, with the scrutiny of nominations taking place on April 23, 2026. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until April 9, 2026, and voting is scheduled for April 27, 2026. The counting of votes will occur on May 14, and the entire election process is expected to conclude by May 6, 2026. The Election Commission has instructed all relevant authorities to ensure necessary arrangements during the by-election process and to strictly adhere to the model code of conduct.
