Riyan Parag Undergoes Shoulder Surgery, Begins Recovery Journey
Surgery and Recovery Update
Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals and an Indian cricketer, has recently had surgery on his right shoulder. He is now set to enter a rehabilitation phase before he can return to competitive cricket. The exact timeline for his recovery remains unspecified.
Following the successful procedure, Parag took to Instagram to share his experience. He stated, "The shoulder finally won. For those who have been inquiring, the surgery went well. The last two years have challenged me in unexpected ways, with both good and frustrating days. There were times when simply completing a game felt daunting. However, I wouldn't change a thing. Now, I face a new challenge: recovery, rehabilitation, and patience. I will soon be back doing what I love. See you on the other side."
Injury Challenges Faced
Parag was initially selected as vice-captain for the India A team in the ongoing 50-over tri-series in Sri Lanka but had to withdraw due to a hamstring injury. His spot was taken by Ruturaj Gaikwad. This hamstring issue had previously affected him during the latter part of the IPL 2026 season, causing him to miss a match against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Despite not being fully fit, Parag played in the crucial final league match against the Mumbai Indians. He also participated in the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 matches for Rajasthan Royals, where he exhibited signs of discomfort while running.
As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Parag had been working closely with the BCCI medical team to manage his injury, with surgery being a potential option. Although doctors suggested he could postpone the surgery until it impacted his performance, Parag chose to proceed with the operation after discussions with the medical staff.
