Riyan Parag Praises Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Record-Breaking Fifty in IPL 2026 Opener
Suryavanshi's Remarkable Performance
Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR), expressed his astonishment at Vaibhav Suryavanshi's remarkable achievement of scoring a fifty in just 15 balls during the IPL 2026 opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Parag noted that both he and teammate Dhruv Jurel were left speechless while observing from the sidelines. He emphasized the team's encouragement for Suryavanshi to play freely and make the most of his time at the crease, expressing excitement about having such a daring player on the team.
A Historic Milestone
Suryavanshi's explosive innings marked the second-fastest fifty by an RR player in IPL history, leading the team to a decisive eight-wicket victory over CSK in Guwahati. Chasing a target of 128 runs, his rapid half-century and a swift partnership of 75 runs with Jaiswal effectively sealed the match for RR. The 15-year-old continues to shine across various formats, including IPL, U19 cricket, and state-level competitions for Bihar.
Parag's Admiration for Suryavanshi
"We have ensured that he gets ample batting opportunities, and he continues to deliver performances like this. Dhruv and I were in awe while watching him play until the fourth over, questioning how he was achieving such feats. I am genuinely pleased to have him on my team," Parag shared with reporters.
Strategic Insights and Bowling Excellence
Parag also discussed the team's approach, highlighting their focus on making opposing batters uncomfortable through strategic decisions and disciplined execution. He praised the bowling unit's performance, describing it as exceptional. "Our goal is to make decisions that unsettle the batsmen, and when executed well, it looks impressive. The way our bowlers performed was truly exceptional," he remarked.
CSK Struggles Against RR's Bowling Attack
Choosing to bowl first, RR's bowlers, including Jofra Archer (2/19), Nandre Burger (2/26), and Ravindra Jadeja (2/18), made it challenging for CSK, who found themselves at 57/6 at one point. Contributions from Jamie Overton (43 runs off 36 balls, including two fours and two sixes), Kartik Sharma (18), and Sarfaraz Khan (17) helped CSK reach a total of 127 runs in 19.4 overs before losing all their wickets.
