Introduction to Shrivalli Bhamidipaty

Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, a promising talent in Indian tennis, hails from Hyderabad. At just 23 years old, she made her debut in the Billie Jean King Cup earlier this year in Pune, where she impressively won all five of her matches, including three against higher-ranked opponents, leading India to the playoffs. Her remarkable achievements earned her the Billie Jean King Cup Heart Award for Asia/Oceania, making her the third Indian woman to receive this honor, following in the footsteps of Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina.

An Unexpected Path to Tennis

In an interview, Shrivalli shared her unconventional entry into tennis, attributing her start to her attraction to 'pretty dresses.' She began playing at the age of 11 and initially viewed it as a way to stay active. However, after being encouraged to pursue the sport professionally, she made a pivotal choice between classical singing and tennis. Shrivalli opted for tennis, drawn by the outdoor nature of the sport and the social opportunities it provided.

She expressed gratitude for the support she received from her schools, Bhavans and DPS, which helped her balance academics and sports. Both institutions accommodated her schedule, allowing her to focus on her training while managing her studies.

Inspirations and Influences

Shrivalli cites Aryana Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic as her current inspirations, while Maria Sharapova initially sparked her interest in tennis. She recalled being captivated by Sharapova's elegance and style when she first encountered the sport.

Interests Beyond the Court

Outside of tennis, Shrivalli has a keen interest in golf, despite never having played it. She finds the sport fascinating and enjoys following it.

Focus on Singles and Upcoming Competitions

With two ITPF singles and six ITPF doubles titles under her belt, Shrivalli is concentrating on her singles career. She is looking forward to the upcoming Tennis Premier League (TPL) season, scheduled from December 9 to December 14 in Ahmedabad. When asked about her preparation, she emphasized her desire to enjoy the experience and contribute to her team, expressing gratitude for the support from her coaches.

A Bright Future Ahead

Shrivalli is not only a rising star but also has the potential to become a leading figure in Indian women's tennis. She aims to break into the top 200 rankings and compete in higher-level tournaments, with a long-term goal of participating in Grand Slams by 2026.
