Rishabh Pant Shines in Second Test Against England
On Saturday, Rishabh Pant, the vice-captain of Team India, showcased his batting prowess during the second innings of the second Test against England. Playing at Edgbaston in Birmingham, he scored 65 runs off just 58 balls on the fourth day of the match, hitting eight fours and three sixes. This innings marks his 16th fifty in Test cricket.
Pant has also set a remarkable world record by surpassing England's captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes. He has now become the player with the most sixes in Test cricket for a single country while playing away from home, having hit a total of 24 sixes in England. In comparison, Stokes managed to hit 21 sixes while playing in South Africa. The record for the most sixes in England is held by the legendary West Indies batsman Sir Vivian Richards, who hit 16 sixes on English soil.
Additionally, Pant has achieved another milestone by becoming the first Asian wicketkeeper to score 2,000 runs in Tests across SENA countries, which include South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. He ranks second among Asian wicketkeepers for the most scores over fifty in SENA Tests, having accomplished this feat 12 times in 52 innings. MS Dhoni leads this list with 13 scores over fifty in 60 innings.
