Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan Lighten the Mood During Test Match Against Sri Lanka
Day 3 Highlights of the Test Match
On August 17, during the third day of the first Test match in the two-match series against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium, Indian players Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan humorously teased veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
India resumed their first innings at a score of 460/9, with Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna at the crease, scoring 12 and 2 runs, respectively. However, Prasidh Krishna was dismissed by Asitha Fernando for 2 runs, concluding India's innings at 462. The visitors' innings ended shortly after, lasting just four balls on Day 3.
Sri Lanka's Recovery
Following India's innings, Sri Lanka began their first innings but struggled initially, collapsing to 99/5 in 28 overs before the lunch break. However, a significant partnership of 129 runs between Niroshan Dickwella and Sonal Dinusha helped stabilize the innings during the post-lunch session.
Humorous Banter from Pant and Khan
As India sought to regain momentum after Sri Lanka's recovery, Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan were heard playfully bantering with Jadeja from behind the stumps. In a viral video shared by a sports network on social media, Sarfaraz humorously remarked that the match would be lengthy and suggested they should share the wickets.
Sarfaraz said, "Lamba game hai Jaddu bhai, mil ke baant ke khayenge," which translates to, "It’s a long game, Jaddu bhai. We’ll share it (wickets) together." Pant added to the humor by teasing Jadeja's signature sword celebration, saying, "Aur phir sab talwar ghumayenge," meaning, "And then everyone will wave their swords."
Importance of the Test for India
This Test match is vital for Team India as they aim to secure points in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. Currently positioned fifth with four wins and five losses, India needs a strong performance in Sri Lanka to enhance their chances of qualifying for the WTC Final.
The competition has intensified following Bangladesh's historic victory over Australia, making every session crucial for India's qualification efforts. The top three teams in the WTC standings include Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand, with India needing to close the gap.
