Revolutionizing Pension Withdrawals for the Elderly with Face Authentication

Innovative Approach to Pension Withdrawals

In Bandikui, Ghanshyam Prajapat reports that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in India is transforming how elderly citizens access their pensions. Through the Common Service Centers (CSCs), operators are now utilizing DigiPay, an Aadhaar Enabled Payment System, to facilitate pension withdrawals directly at the homes of senior citizens. A key feature of this service is the Face Authentication technology, which plays a crucial role in this process.

Gone are the days when elderly individuals had to visit banks or face frustration due to unrecognized fingerprints. This new method is being hailed as a 'blessing' for seniors.

Eliminating Fingerprint Hassles: As people age, their fingerprints can become worn or their skin may loosen, making it difficult for biometric machines to recognize them. Face Authentication effectively resolves this issue.

Banking Services at Home: CSC operators are now equipped with smartphones, allowing them to reach seniors who may have mobility challenges, providing them with much-needed convenience.

Safe and Simple: The Face RD Service technology is highly secure, as it cannot be easily deceived by photos or videos due to its reliance on 'Live Eye Blink' detection.

District Manager Kamlesh Kumar Sharma noted that this new operational method has made using DigiPay significantly easier. Operators no longer need to carry bulky fingerprint scanners like Mantra L1 or Morpho L1; a mobile camera suffices as a scanner.

Higher Success Rates: Face Authentication boasts a much higher success rate compared to fingerprint recognition, alleviating concerns about transaction failures.

Expanding Rural Services: This advancement is expected to enhance trust among elderly villagers, leading to an increase in transactions at their centers.

Three Essential Tips for Using Face Authentication:

1. Adequate Lighting: Ensure there is sufficient natural light on the face during scanning.

2. Stability: Both the elderly person's face and the operator's phone should remain steady during the process.

3. Eye Movement: Seniors should blink only when prompted by the app to ensure successful authentication.

The District Manager emphasized that this initiative by the Indian government aligns with the vision of Digital India, where technology serves the most vulnerable and needy members of society, particularly the elderly.
