New Schedule for Voter Registration in Uttar Pradesh

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released an updated schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Uttar Pradesh, which is based on the eligibility date of January 1, 2026. According to the revised timeline, the draft of the voter list will be published on January 6, 2026. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh announced on X that the period for receiving claims and objections will run from January 6 to February 6, 2026.

It was noted on X that from January 6 to February 27, 2026, the notice phase will take place, during which decisions on counting forms and the resolution of claims and objections will occur. The final publication of the voter list for Uttar Pradesh is scheduled for March 6, 2026. Following the successful completion of the first phase in Bihar, the second phase of the SIR exercise has commenced in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.




On December 19, the Election Commission released the draft voter list for Tamil Nadu after collecting over 54.3 million voter counting forms. The final voter list is set to be published on February 2, 2026, following a special intensive revision exercise conducted approximately five months before the elections. The Tamil Nadu Election Commission has removed 9,737,831 voters from the list due to reasons such as death, change of residence, absence, or multiple registrations.

Similarly, according to data released by the Election Commission, over 2.7 million voters have been removed in Chhattisgarh as part of the ongoing SIR exercise. In Kerala, following the SIR exercise, more than 2.4 million names were removed from the voter lists when the draft was published. The final voter list for Kerala will be released on February 21. In Madhya Pradesh, after completing the census phase of the SIR exercise, the Election Commission has issued the first draft of the voter list, which indicates that 4,274,160 names have been removed.
