Revamped Baijnath-Paprola Railway Station Enhances Passenger Experience in Himachal Pradesh

Major Upgrade for Baijnath-Paprola Railway Station
DHARAMSHALA: The Baijnath-Paprola railway station in Himachal Pradesh has undergone significant upgrades to its infrastructure and passenger facilities as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly modernized station virtually from Bikaner on May 22, 2025.
The station, situated in Kangra district along the Pathankot-Joginder Nagar narrow-gauge line, has been revamped at an investment of Rs 7 crore.
This upgraded station now boasts a variety of modern amenities aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and convenience. Features include an air-conditioned waiting area, clean restrooms, digital information boards, and facilities designed for individuals with disabilities, reflecting the government's commitment to improving rail travel standards in India.
New Amenities Focused on Accessibility
Key new features include a baby-feeding room, retiring rooms, and 20 stainless-steel benches strategically placed on the platform. Additionally, high-speed Wi-Fi, water ATMs, a food court, and an upgraded overbridge have been introduced to enrich the overall experience for commuters.
Passengers with special needs can now access dedicated toilets, ramps, a separate booking counter, and designated parking spaces. The installation of train information display boards and coach guidance systems simplifies navigation for all travelers.
Architectural Design Reflecting Local Culture
The station's architectural design draws inspiration from traditional Himachali elements, embodying the spiritual and natural beauty of the Kangra valley. A new platform shelter covering 1,544 square meters has been constructed to provide weather protection for waiting passengers. The station also features two water booths and a water cooler to meet the hydration needs of daily commuters and tourists. Parking facilities have been expanded to accommodate the anticipated increase in visitors due to enhanced services and growing tourism in the area.
Revamps at Other Himachal Stations
The Baijnath-Paprola railway station is a vital access point for pilgrims visiting renowned temples such as Baijnath, Jawalamukhi, Chintpurni, and Masroor, as well as tourists heading to the historic Kangra Fort. The redevelopment is expected to significantly boost local tourism and employment while facilitating smoother travel for residents.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to modernize 1,309 railway stations across the country. In Himachal Pradesh, similar upgrades are in progress at Amb-Andaura, Palampur, and Shimla stations, which will soon feature roof plazas, children's play areas, improved lighting, and expanded food courts.
Dignitaries present at the inauguration included Kangra MP Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj, Rajya Sabha MP Indu Goswami, and Baijnath MLA Kishori Lal.
