Retired Army Officer Killed in Dehradun Shooting Incident
Tragic Shooting in Dehradun
On March 30, a retired Army officer, Brigadier V.K. Joshi, was tragically shot in the Rajpur locality of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, due to a stray bullet during a shooting incident, as reported by local authorities.
The shooting occurred around 7 a.m. following a dispute between the drivers of two vehicles in the vicinity. This argument escalated into gunfire, and Joshi, who was out for his morning walk, was inadvertently caught in the crossfire, sustaining severe injuries.
He was quickly transported to a nearby medical facility, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
According to Dehradun SP City Pramod Kumar, the police received reports of a conflict in Johari village concerning overtaking maneuvers between two vehicles, which led to the shooting. One individual was injured and later died in the hospital.
Kumar further stated, "The area has been secured, and the vehicle involved, along with its occupants, is currently under investigation. We anticipate making arrests shortly."
Law enforcement has initiated a comprehensive search operation, establishing blockades across various police jurisdictions, including rural regions, to locate those responsible. They are also working to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
Authorities indicated that more information will be available as the investigation unfolds.
In a related incident earlier this year, on January 11, another retired Army officer, Lieutenant General Kulwant Singh Mann, tragically lost his life in a road accident in Panchkula, Haryana. He was struck by an unidentified vehicle while walking near his home.
Mann was taken to the Army's Command Hospital in Chandimandir but unfortunately passed away from his injuries. Police have opened a case against the unknown driver and are reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas, as the accident site did not have camera coverage.
