Residents Celebrate Ceasefire Announcement Amidst Heavy Shelling in Jammu Region

Joyful Response to Ceasefire in Jammu
Following three days of intense shelling from across the border, residents in the Jammu region, particularly in the severely affected districts of Poonch and Rajouri, have expressed their happiness over the announcement of a complete and immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
The affected individuals have welcomed this ceasefire as a relief, allowing them to resume their normal way of life. Narinder Singh, the president of the Poonch District Gurudwara Management Committee, stated that this is a positive step not just for him but for the entire nation and the world, as it averts a devastating war. He prayed for lasting peace in the region.
Since Wednesday, a total of 25 fatalities have been reported, with 18 occurring in Poonch district alone. Singh emphasized that nothing compares to peace and expressed hope that this ceasefire would be permanent, eliminating the need for residents to flee their homes.
He also highlighted the loss of innocent lives, including four members of his community, and the significant damage to numerous homes, a gurudwara, a temple, a madrasa, and many vehicles.
Maulana Syed Ahmed Habib, president of the Zia-ul-Uloom Group of Institutions in Poonch, remarked that the ceasefire announcement is akin to a celebration for the border residents.
He added, 'We pray that the ceasefire is not violated and that no one suffers harm. The border residents bear the brunt of India-Pakistan animosity and always hope that the newly agreed ceasefire will hold, unlike in previous years.'
Former municipal councilor Imtiaz Salaria distributed sweets among residents to celebrate the ceasefire announcement, prompting many to step outside their homes. The people of Mendhar also expressed their relief at the ceasefire declaration, viewing it as a significant respite.
Resident Raja Mahmood Khan from Mendhar noted that displaced individuals are beginning to return, revitalizing the once-deserted markets. This reflects the community's positive response to the ceasefire announcement.
