Ongoing Rescue Efforts in Chamoli

Chamoli, Uttarakhand. In the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, rescue operations are actively underway following an incident at the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti hydroelectric project tunnel. The tunnel was suddenly inundated with water and debris, trapping several workers inside. As per the latest updates, two workers remain unaccounted for, while eight have tragically lost their lives.

Rescue Teams Persisting Inside the Tunnel

Since the incident on August 13, rescue teams have been conducting continuous search operations within the tunnel. The accumulation of water and debris has posed significant challenges for the rescuers. High-capacity pumps have been deployed to remove the water, enabling rescuers to access the affected areas.

According to officials, there were a total of 22 workers present in the tunnel at the time of the incident. Many have been safely evacuated, but the search for the missing workers continues. On Saturday, rescue teams recovered another body, bringing the death toll to eight.

The ongoing accumulation of water and debris inside the tunnel is complicating the rescue efforts. The relief teams are initially focused on draining the water and securing the pathway before advancing their search operations in areas where the missing workers are believed to be.

The rescue teams are striving to expedite the operation cautiously to reach the missing workers as soon as possible. Administrative teams are present at the site, ensuring continuous monitoring of the operation.

Families Demand Compensation for Deceased Workers

In the aftermath of the incident, the families of the deceased workers have demanded compensation of one crore rupees each. They are also calling for a thorough investigation into the incident. Workers staged a protest against the disaster management and rehabilitation minister, Madan Kaushik, who visited the site.

The workers assert that families of those who lost their lives should receive adequate financial support, and there should be an inquiry into the safety measures during the tunnel's construction.

Chief Minister Reviews the Situation

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the site to assess the ongoing rescue and relief efforts. He instructed officials to expedite the rescue operations and provide all possible assistance to the affected workers.

The Chief Minister also visited the hospital to meet with the injured workers and inquire about their condition. Continuous coordination is being maintained among the relief and rescue teams.

With two workers still missing, their families are increasingly anxious. Relatives are eagerly awaiting updates on the rescue operation's progress. The rescue teams are focused on locating the two trapped workers inside the tunnel.
