Rescue Operation Saves Trapped Worker in Thane After 15 Hours

Worker Rescued from Construction Site in Thane
In Thane, Maharashtra, a 39-year-old worker was successfully rescued after being trapped in a lift for 15 hours at a construction site. This incident occurred on Wednesday morning, as reported by local authorities.
The worker, originally from Kolkata, was performing painting work using an open lift, known as a 'cradle,' in the Majivda area when a sudden power outage left him stranded on the 21st floor around 3 PM on Tuesday.
Yasin Tadvi, head of the Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management department, stated that the Balakum fire station was alerted about the situation at approximately 2:02 AM on Wednesday, following a notification from the construction site. Immediate assistance was dispatched.
Upon arriving at the scene around 4 AM, officials found only one supervisor present, and no immediate solution was apparent. Tadvi mentioned that the lift was inoperable due to the power failure, and assistance was delayed because of a strike by electricity department workers. He then contacted a senior official from the Maharashtra State Electricity Department, who promptly sent two staff members to the site.
An engineer on-site was also contacted and instructed to arrange for a generator. Tadvi noted that within about 30 minutes, a generator was provided. The trapped worker was safely brought down around 6 AM through the coordinated efforts of disaster management officials, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, fire department personnel, electricity department staff, and the generator team. Fortunately, the worker did not sustain any injuries, highlighting the need for improved safety protocols at construction sites.
