Rescue Operation Saves Four Stranded Picnic-Goers in Madhya Pradesh

Successful Rescue Mission in Khandwa District

In Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, a sudden rise in water levels due to heavy rainfall led to a challenging rescue operation for four individuals stranded on an island during a picnic. The State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) successfully rescued them after an arduous 11-hour effort early Friday morning, as reported by officials.

The individuals were identified as Huzaifa Hamid (40), Mayank alias Gopal (16), Ali Asgar (35), and Ayush (18). They had traveled approximately 20 kilometers from the district headquarters to the confluence of the Sukta and Avna rivers in the Handikundi area for their outing.

According to officials, the water levels of the rivers surged unexpectedly due to the downpour, trapping the group on an island. The SDERF team was alerted at 6:15 PM on Thursday and promptly initiated the rescue operation.

Initially, rescuers attempted to reach the island using a motorboat secured with safety ropes, but the strong currents made this approach extremely hazardous. Given the circumstances, the safety of both the rescuers and the stranded individuals was prioritized, leading to a decision to wait for the water levels to decrease while alternative rescue strategies were developed.

To ensure the safety of those trapped, life jackets, food, and drinking water were delivered to the island using drones, providing them with much-needed relief until the water levels receded. Continuous communication was maintained via mobile phones to boost their morale.

After a partial reduction in water levels, the motorboat was successfully navigated to the island, and at 4:45 AM on Friday, all four individuals were safely rescued following the extensive operation.
