Release of Vijay's Anticipated Film 'Jan Nayagan' Postponed Amid Certification Issues
Postponement of 'Jan Nayagan' Release
The highly awaited film 'Jan Nayagan', featuring actor and politician Vijay, has had its release date pushed back from January 9. This decision came shortly after the Madras High Court reserved its order on a petition challenging the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) decision to withhold the certification.
Justice P.T. Asha indicated that a ruling could be delivered on January 9, coinciding with the film's planned release across approximately 5,000 screens worldwide. The petition was filed by KVN Productions LLP against the CBFC's refusal to issue a certification.
During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General A.R.L. Sundarajan, representing the CBFC, informed the court that the certification process had been reinstated due to a complaint from a dissatisfied member of the review committee. This five-member committee had viewed the film on December 19 and recommended a U/A 16+ certification with certain cuts.
According to the CBFC, one committee member later wrote to the chairman, claiming that their objections were not properly recorded before the recommendation was made. Consequently, the chairman decided to refer the film to a larger revising committee under the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024.
The production house KVN Productions announced the postponement on Wednesday, acknowledging the hopes, excitement, and emotions surrounding the film. They stated, 'It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audience that the release of 'Jan Nayagan' has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.'
Originally set for release on January 9, the producers noted that this decision was not made lightly and assured that a new release date would be announced as soon as possible.
