The focus is on voter turnout in the Tamil Nadu elections, and the results so far are quite promising. By 5 PM, approximately 82.24% of voters had cast their ballots, marking a new record.
According to current reports, the voting process is still ongoing, as many voters are still receiving tokens at various locations. Notably, over 80% voter turnout has been recorded in 30 out of the 38 districts, indicating a rise in electoral participation across the state.
It's important to note that in the previous elections in 2011, following the delimitation, the turnout was around 78%. This time, all but eight districts have surpassed the 80% mark, which is considered a significant achievement.
Reports indicate that the western regions of the state have seen higher voter turnout compared to other areas. Karur district has recorded the highest turnout at nearly 90%, the best in the entire state.
In the capital city of Chennai, there has also been a positive trend in voting. Out of the 16 assembly constituencies, 12 have reported over 80% turnout, with the overall voting percentage in the district reaching approximately 83.44%.
