Record-Breaking Day on Mount Everest: 274 Climbers Reach the Summit

Kathmandu, May 21: A remarkable achievement was recorded as 274 climbers, including three from India, successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest from the Nepalese side, marking the highest number of ascents in a single day.
The Indian climbers who contributed to this historic feat are Tulasi Reddi Palpunoori, Sandeep Are, and Ajay Pal Singh Dhaliwal.
On Wednesday, all 274 climbers, which included 150 Sherpas from Nepal, reached the peak at an elevation of 8,848.86 meters, as confirmed by Rishi Ram Bhandari, the general secretary of the Expedition Operators Association in Nepal.
This achievement sets a new record for the spring climbing season, with 502 climbers having received permits to ascend Everest in 2026.
Previously, in May 2019, a total of 223 climbers had reached the summit in one day from the Nepalese side.
Additionally, on Thursday, Lakshmikanta Mandal from India also reached the summit, climbing alongside eight others, including six Sherpas from Nepal, as reported by Pioneer Adventure Pvt. Ltd., the expedition organizer.
Other notable records this spring include Kami Rita Sherpa from Nepal, who ascended the summit for the 32nd time, breaking his own record, and Lhakpa Sherpa, who became the first woman to summit Everest 11 times this season.
