New Delhi, Aug 13: In a remarkable prelude to Independence Day, two significant records were acknowledged in the Golden Book of World Records on Thursday, celebrating the 'Longest Mass March With Flag' and 'Most People Holding a National Flag.'
These records were attributed to Gaurav Gautam from Palwal, Haryana, during a massive Tiranga-themed event that attracted thousands of participants.
A provisional certificate was granted to Gautam for the 'Longest Mass March With Flag.' Organizers reported that a vast number of individuals marched with the Indian national flag, the Tiranga, covering an unprecedented distance on August 13. This event served as a grand homage to national unity, patriotism, and the enduring spirit of India's freedom struggle.
Additionally, a certificate was awarded for the 'Most People Holding a National Flag.' According to the Golden Book of World Records, a record number of participants were noted to have walked while holding a long replica of the Indian national flag. This event was designed as a spectacular public display of collective pride and solidarity, celebrating the values associated with India's Independence.
These dual recognitions come as the nation prepares for the 80th Independence Day celebrations. The achievements contribute to the festive spirit surrounding the government's 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative, which encourages citizens to proudly display the national flag at their residences.
The historic Tiranga Yatra commenced with a massive tricolor flag measuring 5 km in length and 10 feet in width, receiving a grand welcome at approximately 20 locations. Participants ranged from school children to elders and matriarchs, all joining in with enthusiasm.
The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign was initiated under the auspices of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, aiming to inspire citizens to bring the national flag into their homes and hoist the Tiranga as part of the celebrations for India's Independence.
This campaign was rooted in the belief that the public's relationship with the national flag had historically been more formal and institutional, rather than a personal expression of national pride.
By encouraging citizens to display the flag at home, the initiative aimed to transform the Tiranga into a symbol of personal connection with the nation while also representing a collective commitment to nation-building and unity.
This year, 'Har Ghar Tiranga 2026' is dedicated to commemorating 150 Years of Vande Mataram, celebrating patriotism, pride in the Tiranga, and the profound love for the motherland as reflected in India's National Song.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to actively engage in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in honor of Independence Day on August 15 and to pay tribute to the freedom fighters.
In an Instagram reel, PM Modi stated, "Celebrate August 15 with pride, pay tribute to freedom fighters, take a pledge for Viskit Bharat. Har Ghar Tiranga, Ghar Ghar Tiranga, Har Man Tiranga."
"Let us make Har Ghar Tiranga a celebration in every home," the Prime Minister concluded, as the nation gears up for the 80th Independence Day festivities.
