Uttarakhand High Court Upholds FIR Against Gym Owner
The Uttarakhand High Court has declined to dismiss a first information report against Deepak Kumar, also known as 'Mohammad Deepak', who had spoken out against the harassment of a Muslim shopkeeper by alleged members of the Bajrang Dal.
Justice Rakesh Thapliyal has prohibited Kumar from making any comments on social media regarding the ongoing cases related to this incident.
The judge expressed concern that Kumar's social media activity could interfere with the investigation, criticizing him for frequently posting about the matter and delivering 'sermons'.
The incident occurred on January 26 when members of the Bajrang Dal confronted an elderly Muslim shopkeeper, Vakeel Ahmed, over the use of the term 'Baba' in his shop's name. Kumar and another individual, Vijay Rawat, condemned the mob's actions.
Delhi High Court Quashes Lookout Circulars Against NDTV Founders
The Delhi High Court has annulled lookout circulars issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation against former NDTV founders Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy.
These notices were related to first information reports filed in 2017 and 2019.
Lookout circulars are utilized by law enforcement to determine if an individual leaving the country is wanted by authorities.
In October 2024, the CBI had closed the corruption and fraud case against the Roys. Their legal counsel stated that the couple had complied with the summons issued in 2019 and cooperated fully with the investigation.
Kashmir's Chief Cleric Claims House Arrest
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Kashmir’s chief cleric, has alleged that he is under house arrest and is being prevented from attending congregational prayers at the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
Farooq stated that this is the third consecutive Friday during Ramadan that he has been subjected to what he describes as arbitrary house arrest, which he claims was never formally communicated to him.
He accused authorities of enforcing his detention by placing police vehicles and large contingents outside his residence to obstruct his movement, suggesting that this reflects the 'panic of the rulers'.
Farooq had previously faced house arrest in September following an incident involving damage to an inauguration plaque at the Hazratbal shrine.
