Re-voting Commences in West Bengal Amid Election Fraud Allegations
Re-voting Process Initiated in South 24 Parganas
In West Bengal, the re-voting process has commenced this Saturday morning for two assembly seats in the South 24 Parganas district, following complaints of electoral fraud and a thorough investigation by the Election Commission. This decision was made based on ground reports and inputs from observers.
Voting is currently taking place at 15 centers across the two assembly seats in South 24 Parganas, as confirmed by an official. The re-voting is occurring at 11 centers in the Magrahat West assembly constituency and four centers in the Diamond Harbour area.
Voting Details and Background
According to the official, the voting began at 7 AM and will continue until 6 PM. The initial voting for these assembly seats took place on April 29. An official from the Election Commission stated that the order for re-voting was issued based on reports from the election officials and observers in both constituencies.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that significant electoral fraud occurred at several polling centers in these assembly seats within the Diamond Harbour parliamentary constituency, which is represented by Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress. To investigate these allegations, the Election Commission appointed special observer Subrata Gupta.
