Hazlewood on Team's Disciplined Performance

Josh Hazlewood, the pacer for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), commended his team's disciplined approach following their victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in an IPL 2026 match held in Bengaluru. He emphasized the bowlers' execution and adaptability on a slower pitch. In an interview on JioHotstar post-match, Hazlewood noted that the home conditions were somewhat different, necessitating a more controlled strategy, especially since RCB chose to bowl first. "We faced some challenges in the first half of last season during home matches. Winning the toss and opting to bowl first was a relief. The pitch was different from what we usually encounter—slower and a bit unpredictable, making batting challenging. I was impressed with how effectively we chased down the target. Our batters are in excellent form and confident, which made the quick chase on such a wicket significant," Hazlewood remarked.

Commendation for Bowling Communication

Hazlewood also acknowledged the effective communication among the bowlers, particularly praising senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his leadership during the initial overs. "The planning is straightforward, but execution is key. Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) assessed the conditions perfectly in his first over, leading to some strategic field adjustments. The communication within our bowling unit, especially from Bhuvi, who bowls at the start, is one of our strengths," he added.

Emphasis on Simplicity and Precision

"Our success in away games last year can be attributed to our focus on simplicity and accuracy. I may not possess the skills of bowlers like Bumrah with their slower deliveries, so I adapt on the go. I continually work on various techniques during training, hoping to implement them when necessary. In this match, the focus was on precision, hitting the right lengths, utilizing cross-seam deliveries, and maintaining simplicity," Hazlewood concluded.

Match Summary: RCB's Dominant Performance

Rasikh Salam Dar, alongside a brilliant bowling display from Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood, spearheaded a dominant bowling effort, restricting LSG to a modest total of 146 against the defending champions, RCB.

Kohli Leads the Chase

In response, Virat Kohli played a pivotal role in the chase, scoring a smooth 49 runs, while skipper Rajat Patidar (27) and Jitesh Sharma (23) provided valuable contributions, helping RCB secure a comfortable victory by reaching 149/5 in just 15.1 overs.

Player of the Match

Hazlewood was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance. RCB is set to face Delhi Capitals next on Saturday in Bengaluru at 3:30 PM IST.
