RCB Unveils Green Jerseys to Promote Sustainability in IPL

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the reigning champions, will showcase their distinctive green jerseys during their match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium this Saturday. These jerseys, crafted from recycled materials, symbolize the franchise's ongoing dedication to environmental sustainability.

Leading the Charge in Sustainability

According to RCB, they are recognized as the world's only carbon-neutral T20 franchise. This initiative, which began in 2011, integrates sustainability into all aspects of their operations, emphasizing measurement, accountability, and fan engagement as they strive to achieve carbon positivity. Rajesh Menon, CEO of RCB, remarked, "Our journey to carbon neutrality has been a long-term commitment. The green jerseys embody this dedication, and we aspire to motivate our fans and partners to adopt more sustainable practices."

Fan Engagement and Stadium Operations

A significant aspect of RCB's sustainability strategy involves evaluating fan behavior on match days. The franchise conducts comprehensive surveys throughout the stadium to analyze commuting habits, ride-sharing practices, and estimate the carbon footprint per attendee, which helps in understanding the environmental effects of fan travel.

Supporters are encouraged to utilize public transportation for match attendance, with match tickets providing access to the Bengaluru Metro. RCB is also enhancing its waste management systems at the stadium, focusing on meticulous monitoring and audits of waste segregation.

Assessing and Reducing Carbon Emissions

To minimize and offset their carbon emissions, RCB implements various strategies, including effective waste management, utilizing renewable energy sources like solar lighting, and encouraging fans to commit to reducing reliance on traditional resources.

The franchise keeps a thorough record of its operational carbon footprint, which encompasses emissions from team travel, lodging, and energy use. This includes evaluating travel distances, fuel consumption, accommodation-related emissions, and verifying energy usage at the stadium through audits of diesel generators and electricity consumption.

Additionally, sustainability audits will be performed on match days throughout the season to enhance accountability. These initiatives will culminate in a detailed sustainability report, which will undergo an independent verification process.
