RCB Honors Fans and Enhances Safety for IPL 2026

Tribute to Deceased Fans

Players from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will honor the fans who tragically lost their lives in a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium following RCB's first title victory in the previous Indian Premier League season. During the warm-up for their inaugural home game of IPL 2026, RCB players will don jerseys featuring the number 11 and wear black armbands during the match. Additionally, 11 seats at the stadium will remain vacant as a mark of respect for the fans who passed away, as announced by Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Menon during a pre-season press conference.

Enhanced Safety and Operational Framework for IPL 2026

Menon elaborated on the comprehensive measures taken to ensure a secure and smooth matchday experience for fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the defending champions will host five home matches. He expressed gratitude to the government for their support, stating, "It has been a long journey since June 4, and everything has been executed with urgency. We have adhered to the SOPs mandated by the court to ensure all protocols are in place."

Updated Agreements and Responsibilities

From an operational perspective, Menon discussed the updated framework that governs the stadium and the roles of involved stakeholders. According to a release, new agreements between the BCCI, KSCA, and RCB designate the state association as the primary organizer, collaborating with the franchise to implement standard operating procedures, including emergency planning protocols, and to indemnify any breaches of the stadium agreement. Both the franchise and the state association will adhere to these SOPs, which also include specific guidelines for victory celebrations.

Advanced Crowd Management and Infrastructure Investment

RCB has introduced several innovative crowd management strategies within and around the stadium. "We have significantly enhanced our crowd management protocols. AI-driven CCTV systems have been installed throughout the stadium, including inside and in the surrounding areas, utilizing a tool named Jarvis. This system offers real-time alerts, including specific crowd counts for different stands, to improve monitoring and control. The Commissioner's office will also have access to these CCTV feeds for real-time oversight," stated Rajesh Menon.

"We have allocated around ₹7 crore to upgrade crowd management infrastructure, which includes multiple baggage scanners and command centers," he added.

Ticketing and Matchday Logistics

The stadium will implement revised entry, exit, and fan movement protocols based on local authority recommendations. Tickets for the opening match went on sale in March at 4 PM. Ticket holders will have metro access on match days, and parking can be reserved in advance. All stadium gates will open four hours before the match. Menon also confirmed that the franchise has opted not to hold the Unbox event this year, focusing instead on ensuring a seamless matchday experience.
