RCB Dominates DC with Stellar Bowling Performance in IPL Clash
RCB's Bowling Attack Dismantles DC
In a stunning display of bowling, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) overwhelmed the Delhi Capitals (DC), dismissing them for a mere 75 runs in just 16.3 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.
DC's Disastrous Start
DC faced a catastrophic beginning, finding themselves at 8 runs for the loss of 6 wickets within the first four overs. A notable effort from Abishek Porel, who scored 30 runs off 33 balls, along with brief contributions from David Miller (19 runs) and Kyle Jamieson (12 runs), helped DC surpass the previous record for the lowest IPL total of 49 runs.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bhuvneshwar Kumar set the tone for RCB by taking the wicket of debutant Sahil Parakh, who was dismissed for a duck on just his second ball, leaving DC at 0/1.
In the following over, Josh Hazlewood made his mark by claiming the crucial wicket of KL Rahul, who was caught for just one run. Sameer Rizvi followed suit, also dismissed on his first ball, leaving DC reeling at 2/3.
Tristan Stubbs managed to ease some pressure with a boundary, but soon fell to Bhuvneshwar's outswinger, caught at slips for just five runs. Captain Axar Patel was also dismissed for a duck, leaving DC in a dire situation at 7/5.
Hazlewood continued his rampage, taking his third wicket as Nitish Rana's attempt to evade a bouncer resulted in a catch at gully, leaving DC at 9/6.
By the end of the powerplay, DC was struggling at 13/6, with only David Miller and Abishek Porel at the crease. This marked only the second occurrence in IPL history where a team lost six wickets during the powerplay, a stat noted by CricViz.
Miller and Porel Attempt a Recovery
Miller and Porel tried to stabilize the innings, scoring four runs each against Rasikh Salam Dar in the seventh over.
In the ninth over, Miller attempted to assert dominance with two boundaries but was ultimately dismissed by Rasikh, caught for 19 runs off 18 balls, leaving DC at 43/7.
At the halfway mark, DC stood at 46/7, with Porel (18*) and Jamieson (1*) still at the crease.
A six from Jamieson over deep square leg brought DC past the 50-run mark in the 10.2 over, but he soon fell to Krunal, trapped lbw for 12 runs, leaving DC at 62/8.
Hazlewood Concludes the Innings
Suyash Sharma bowled Kuldeep Yadav for three runs, reducing DC to 71/9.
Hazlewood then wrapped up the innings by dismissing Porel for 30 runs off 33 balls, as DC was bowled out for 75 in 16.3 overs. Hazlewood's impressive figures of 4 wickets for 12 runs in 3.3 overs, alongside Bhuvneshwar's 3 wickets for 5 runs in three overs, were the standout performances, with Krunal, Rasikh, and Suyash each claiming a wicket.
