RCB Clinches Second IPL Title with Stellar Bowling Performance
RCB's Bowling Shines in Title Victory
Devdutt Padikkal, a batter for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), praised the team's bowling unit after they secured their second consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Bowling Performance Key to Success
The bowling lineup of RCB has been a crucial factor in their success during the 2026 IPL season, showcasing consistent performances. Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the team with 28 wickets, followed by Rasikh Salam Dar with 19, Josh Hazlewood from Australia with 15, and Krunal Pandya contributing 14 wickets.
In the final match, RCB's bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, restricting GT to a total of 155/8. The pace trio of Rasikh Salam Dar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Josh Hazlewood were instrumental, taking three, two, and two wickets respectively. Rasikh's figures were particularly impressive at 3/27 in four overs, while Bhuvneshwar finished with 2/29 and Hazlewood with 2/37. Krunal Pandya also added a wicket to the tally.
Padikkal's Praise for the Bowling Unit
After the match, Padikkal expressed admiration for the bowling unit, describing their performance as 'unbelievable' and emphasizing their meticulous preparation. He noted the detailed strategies discussed in team meetings, stating, 'They have been unbelievable. The plans they execute are great; I have been in a few meetings, and they are meticulous.'
Kohli's Experience Shines Through
Padikkal also highlighted Virat Kohli's crucial role in the chase, where he remained unbeaten with 75 runs off 42 balls. He mentioned that Kohli's presence at the crease alleviated any nerves due to his experience and ability to handle pressure. 'As long as he [Kohli] is there, there are no nerves. He has evolved and continuously improved,' Padikkal remarked.
Jitesh Sharma on Team Mindset
Jitesh Sharma from RCB credited the team's leadership and support staff for fostering a positive environment during their title defense. He noted that Director of Cricket Mo Bobat shifted the team's mindset from 'defending' the title to actively 'chasing' it, which instilled confidence within the squad. He praised the management, including batting coach Dinesh Karthik, for their guidance.
Sharma emphasized the team's focus on a 'one-match-at-a-time' approach, concentrating on tactics rather than pressure. He expressed optimism for the next season, stating, 'Mo [Bobat] had said earlier, we are not defending; we are chasing the title. The atmosphere has changed, and all credit goes to the management.'
