Jadeja's Mindset Transformation

Cheteshwar Pujara, a former Indian cricketer, has shed light on the evolving mindset of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in Test cricket. He noted that Jadeja has shifted from merely containing runs to actively seeking wickets with each delivery. After missing the one-off Test against Afghanistan, Jadeja is set to rejoin the Indian squad for the upcoming two-Test series in Sri Lanka, commencing on August 15.

'Now he is delivering every ball with purpose'

In a discussion on JioStar's 'Follow The Blues', Pujara, who has played alongside Jadeja for years, emphasized the bowler's newfound focus. He explained that Jadeja is now more aware of his strengths, aiming to bowl in line with the stumps to secure wickets. Pujara remarked, "Previously, Jadeja's strategy was to minimize runs, particularly in red-ball cricket. He would only pursue wickets if the pitch offered assistance. However, he has now adapted his approach, concentrating on taking wickets consistently."

"In every match, he aims to deliver the ball in line with the stumps to dismiss the batter. His earlier mindset was somewhat defensive, but now he approaches each ball with the intent to take a wicket. This mental shift is crucial for his game, as he utilizes the crease more effectively, adjusts his length, and considers the batter's stance. Such a transformation is vital for success in cricket," he added.

Jadeja's Remarkable Test Career

Ravindra Jadeja boasts an impressive record in Test cricket, having played 89 matches and taken 348 wickets at an average of 25.11. His achievements include 17 four-wicket hauls, 15 five-wicket hauls, and three ten-wicket hauls, with his best bowling figures being 7/42. Additionally, he has accumulated 4,095 runs across 133 innings, averaging 38.27, which includes six centuries and eight fifties. Jadeja's consistent performance has solidified his status as one of the premier all-rounders in contemporary cricket.

Upcoming Challenges and Milestones

Looking ahead, Jadeja is set to face Test series against New Zealand (two matches away) and Australia (five matches at home), where he will pursue his goal of reaching 400 Test wickets. Achieving this milestone would make him the fifth Indian cricketer to do so. Jadeja's last appearance in Tests was during a series defeat against South Africa in November of the previous year. His performance in 2022 fell short of his usual standards, as he claimed only 25 wickets in 10 matches, averaging 38.20, with his best figures being 4/50.

Currently, India ranks fifth in the World Test Championship standings, having secured four victories and suffered four losses in nine matches, resulting in a Points Percentage (PCT) of 48.150.
