Ravichandran Ashwin Responds to Casteist Remark Following Vijay's Election Victory
Ashwin's Reaction to Casteist Comment
Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his discontent after a casteist comment was directed at him in response to his congratulatory message for actor-turned-politician Vijay's recent electoral success in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.
Vijay's party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, achieved a remarkable victory in its first electoral attempt, becoming the largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly by winning 108 out of 234 seats. Vijay himself secured victories in both Perambu and Tiruchirappalli East.
Ashwin was among numerous public figures who praised Vijay's leadership, calling the election results a 'fabulous outcome' and expressing his admiration for Vijay's political journey.
Casteist Remark Goes Viral
In his post on X, Ashwin congratulated Vijay's TVK for nearly achieving a majority in the Tamil Nadu elections. He anticipated positive feedback but was met with a derogatory casteist remark from a user on the platform.
The comment, which targeted Ashwin's caste identity, quickly gained traction online. The user tweeted, 'A Brahmin who is afraid of Dravidian rule,' in response to Ashwin's congratulatory message.
Ashwin's Firm Stand Against Casteism
Ravichandran Ashwin, known for his strong principles, did not take the comment lightly and responded assertively on X. Currently involved in commentary for IPL 2026, he emphasized that his birth identity was not a choice and defined true leadership as empathy and equality.
'I have said it before and will say it again! My birth identity was not my decision, but I am grateful for my wonderful parents,' the 39-year-old stated.
'Leadership involves understanding others' struggles and fostering growth beyond societal barriers like caste. I aspire to see a day when lineage or caste is no longer a topic of discussion,' he added.
As for Vijay, he is expected to take the oath as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, although he still needs to secure formal majority support in the Assembly to establish the government.
