Ravichandran Ashwin Announces IPL Retirement

Chennai: Renowned Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has officially announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), concluding a remarkable 16-year journey with the tournament shortly after stepping away from international cricket.

Ashwin shared his decision via a post on social media, stating, “Every ending paves the way for a new beginning. While my IPL career concludes today, my journey as a game explorer across various leagues starts now.”

He expressed gratitude towards all the franchises for the cherished memories and relationships formed over the years, particularly thanking the IPL and the BCCI for their contributions to his career. He looks forward to embracing new opportunities ahead.

At 38, Ashwin had previously retired from international cricket in December during the Australian tour, leaving behind a legacy as India's second-highest wicket-taker in Tests with 537 wickets, trailing only Anil Kumble's 619.

In the IPL, Ashwin debuted with the Chennai Super Kings in 2009 and made his final appearance in IPL 2025, rejoining CSK for ₹9.75 crore after a decade-long hiatus.

Throughout his IPL career, he played 221 matches, claiming 187 wickets at an average of 30.22, with his best bowling figures being 4/34. He also scored 833 runs, with a top score of 50 and an average of 13.02.

Ashwin was a key player in CSK's championship victories in 2010 and 2011 and also played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals during his IPL tenure.
