Ashwin Breaks Silence on CSK Speculations

Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has finally spoken out regarding the swirling rumors about his potential departure from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as IPL 2026 approaches. According to reports, Ashwin has informed the CSK management of his intention to part ways before the upcoming season.

Ashwin's Return to CSK and Performance Overview

The Tamil Nadu cricketer was brought back to CSK for a hefty sum of 9.75 crore, marking his return after a decade spent with teams like Rising Pune SuperGiants, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals. Unfortunately, Ashwin's performance did not meet expectations, as he managed only seven wickets and scored 33 runs across nine matches.

Seeking Clarity on Future with CSK

Amidst the ongoing speculation, Ashwin has openly discussed his future with CSK. In a recent episode of his YouTube channel, Ash Ki Baat, he emphasized the franchise's responsibility to communicate clearly with players regarding their status. He expressed his desire for clarity and questioned the sources of the rumors.

"After every season, it's the franchise's duty to inform players about their retention or release status," Ashwin stated.

He further added, "Every player deserves clarity. As it stands, I have simply asked for it."

Ashwin also pointed out that the rumors circulating are not originating from the players themselves.

Ashwin's IPL Journey and Historical Context

Ravichandran Ashwin began his IPL career with CSK in 2009 and played until 2015, when the franchise faced a two-year ban due to match-fixing allegations. Upon CSK's return in 2018, Ashwin was not retained. During his initial tenure, he was the leading wicket-taker for CSK, claiming 120 wickets in 121 matches, but his second stint saw a decline in performance.

Speculations Surrounding Sanju Samson's Future

In addition to Ashwin's situation, there are rumors regarding Sanju Samson potentially leaving Rajasthan Royals for CSK. Reports suggest that Samson has requested either a trade or release into the auction pool due to reported tensions with the franchise.

Ashwin commented on this, noting that CSK would need to release players valued at 18 crore to accommodate Samson's potential trade. He mentioned, "If CSK wants a player worth 18 crore, they need to release or trade players of equivalent value."

He clarified that he lacks inside information due to his involvement with the CSK Academy.

Ashwin's Performance with Rajasthan Royals

Ravichandran Ashwin and Sanju Samson were teammates at Rajasthan Royals from 2022 to 2024 before Ashwin was unexpectedly released ahead of the IPL 2025 Auction. During his three years with RR, Ashwin took 35 wickets at an average of 38.22 and an economy rate of 7.82 in 45 matches.
