Raphinha Cleared for Selection as Brazil Prepares for World Cup Clash Against Norway
Raphinha Cleared for Selection
Brazil's head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that forward Raphinha is set to be included in the squad for the upcoming Round of 16 match against Norway in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Although the Barcelona winger has not fully regained his fitness, his recovery has been promising.
During a press conference on Saturday, Ancelotti noted that Raphinha has shown significant improvement and may be utilized from the bench if necessary. He stated, "Raphinha is making excellent progress. While he isn't at full fitness yet, he is available to sit on the bench and can contribute for a few minutes if needed."
Ancelotti expressed satisfaction with Raphinha's quick recovery, emphasizing his vital role in the national team. "His recovery has been swift and effective. We are pleased with this development as Raphinha is an extremely important asset for our squad," he remarked.
Paqueta Out, Ancelotti Evaluates Options
On the downside, Brazil will miss midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who sustained a hamstring injury during the team's recent 2-1 win over Japan.
Ancelotti acknowledged that Paqueta's absence necessitates adjustments in the midfield lineup. He mentioned, "We lack a player of Lucas Paqueta's caliber in our squad, so we must find a suitable replacement. Each player has different attributes; Danilo differs from Gabriel, who is not the same as Matheus Cunha or Ederso."
The coach indicated that his final choice will be influenced by Brazil's strategy and Norway's capabilities. "I will select the player based on our tactical approach, considering the opponent's strengths while also aligning with our game plan for tomorrow," he added.
Brazil is gearing up to face Norway in the Round of 16, aiming to advance further in the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament.
