Rani Mukerji Takes on a New Challenge in 'Mardaani 3'

Mumbai, January 12: Rani Mukerji is back as the indomitable Shivani Shivaji Roy in the upcoming film 'Mardaani 3'. This time, she embarks on a harrowing mission to locate and rescue a group of missing girls, as revealed in the trailer released by the production team on Monday.

Celebrating her 30-year milestone in Hindi cinema, Yash Raj Films introduced the intense trailer of 'Mardaani 3', which sets a dark and urgent atmosphere as the fearless officer dives into the grim world of a beggar mafia, led by a chilling character portrayed by the talented Mallika Prasad.

The trailer, which runs for over three minutes, begins with a haunting message: “In a country that worships goddesses… thousands of daughters go missing every week.” The story then follows Shivani Shivaji Roy, who joins the NIA and is immediately thrust into a terrifying case involving the disappearance of girls, with no time to grasp the severity of the situation.

What ensues is a gripping, action-filled chase as Shivani uncovers the shocking reality of 93 girls who have disappeared without a trace. Fueled by anger and determination, she confronts the merciless Amma, stopping at nothing to ensure justice is served and to reclaim the lives that have been taken.

Janaki Bodiwala, known for her role in 'Shaitaan', joins the Mardaani franchise in a significant role. The screenplay for 'Mardaani 3' has been crafted by Aayush Gupta, recognized for his work on 'The Railway Men'.

Directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Aditya Chopra, 'Mardaani 3' continues the franchise's tradition of addressing serious societal issues. While the first film highlighted the harsh realities of human trafficking and the second explored the mind of a serial rapist, the third installment delves into another grim aspect of society, reinforcing the series' commitment to impactful storytelling.

On the occasion of her 30-year journey in Hindi cinema, Rani expressed her sentiments about the Mardaani series, emphasizing how the character of Shivani Shivaji Roy embodies quiet strength and the importance of sharing uncomfortable yet hopeful narratives.

“Mardaani holds a special significance for me. Shivani Shivaji Roy exemplifies quiet strength. Through her, I learned the power of telling stories that may be uncomfortable but also instill hope,” Rani stated.

'Mardaani 3' is set to hit theaters worldwide on January 30.
