Ramesh Chennithala to Lead Key Ministries Amidst Cabinet Reshuffle

In a notable political shift, Ramesh Chennithala is poised to lead the Home and Vigilance Ministries in the upcoming cabinet under V.D. Satheesan. This decision comes as the party seeks to address internal dissent and maintain balance among its factions. With informal discussions already underway regarding the cabinet formation, the new administration is expected to blend experienced leaders with fresh faces, ensuring representation across various community and regional lines. As the political landscape evolves, Chennithala's acceptance of this role could significantly impact the Congress party's strategy moving forward.

Cabinet Reshuffle and Key Appointments

In a significant development, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, who felt sidelined in the race for the Chief Minister position, is set to be assigned the Home and Vigilance Ministries in the V.D. Satheesan cabinet. To address his discontent, the party's high command has instructed the Chief Ministerial candidate to include him in high-profile departments. This move aims to balance the various factions within the party, especially amid reports that Chennithala might refuse to join the cabinet.

While there was a general consensus on assigning Chennithala two crucial portfolios, some close associates of Satheesan reportedly opposed this decision. Nevertheless, the high command has made it clear that Chennithala is fully qualified for the role, considering his seniority. Sources indicate that the leadership has reminded the Chief Ministerial candidate that Chennithala is among the top contenders for the position, hinting that he may accept the proposal.

Earlier in the day, after Satheesan visited Chennithala's residence, AICC General Secretary Deepa Dasmunshi also met with him, engaging in discussions for an hour to persuade him to join the team. Meanwhile, informal talks regarding the cabinet formation have begun between Congress and the UDF. The cabinet, which will be sworn in on Monday, is expected to feature a mix of senior leaders and new faces, while also maintaining community equations and regional balance. The 21-member cabinet will include 11 ministers from Congress, alongside the Chief Minister.

Ensuring Representation in the Cabinet

The K.C. Venugopal faction is keen to ensure adequate representation in the cabinet. Besides Chennithala, several senior leaders, including KPCC President Suni Joseph, K. Muraleedharan, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, KPCC Executive President A.P. Anil Kumar, and P.C. Vishnunath, along with M. Liju, are expected to be included in the cabinet.
