Rajnath Singh to Lead High-Level Meeting on Parliamentary Strategy Ahead of Monsoon Session
High-Level Meeting to Discuss Government Agenda
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is set to preside over a crucial meeting with ministers from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Delhi tomorrow. This gathering aims to finalize the government's agenda for the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, which is scheduled to run from July 20 to August 13. A multi-party meeting will take place on July 19, where the government will outline its legislative plans and expects opposition parties to present the issues they wish to address during the session. The meeting is anticipated to commence at 11 AM.
Anticipated Legislative Discussions and Political Dynamics
Several significant bills are expected to be discussed during this session, and recent disagreements among opposition parties may lead to a tumultuous atmosphere. Following defeats in the assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress is experiencing internal turmoil, with 20 of its MPs merging into the 'National Citizens Party of India.' These MPs have requested separate seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha and expressed their support for the BJP government. Additionally, three MPs from the Trinamool Congress have resigned from their Rajya Sabha seats to join the BJP.
Further Political Shifts and Opposition Concerns
The Shiv Sena (UBT) has also seen further fragmentation, with six Lok Sabha MPs aligning with the faction led by Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Moreover, seven Rajya Sabha MPs from the Aam Aadmi Party have joined the BJP. The opposition is expected to raise issues such as the NEET-UG paper leak and comments made by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh regarding deaths during Operation Sindoor. The Congress party has issued a notice against the defense minister for breach of privilege.
Upcoming Constitutional Amendment Bill Review
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has confirmed that the Monsoon Session will take place from July 20 to August 13. Before the session begins, on July 17, a joint parliamentary committee reviewing the proposed 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill is expected to approve its report for presentation in Parliament. This bill has sparked political debate due to a provision that would automatically remove Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and central or state ministers from office if they are held in judicial custody for serious crimes for more than 30 days.
