Rajnath Singh Remembers Chandra Bhanu Gupta's Generosity at Memorial Event

Honoring Chandra Bhanu Gupta's Legacy
On Sunday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Bhanu Gupta, recalling his remarkable generosity. Singh shared a memorable incident where Gupta organized a feast for protesters opposing him.
This anecdote was shared during a ceremony at the National PG College in Lucknow, where Singh unveiled a statue of Gupta and released a commemorative postage stamp.
Singh recounted, "I want to share another story about Chandra Bhanu Gupta Ji. When he was the Chief Minister, around 10,000 people were protesting against him. Former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar was among them. None of these protesters had any food arranged. Understanding their plight, Chandra Bhanu Gupta Ji quickly arranged meals for them, serving puris and greens."
He emphasized that this incident illustrates the importance of respecting the opposition in a healthy democratic system. It also conveys that while political differences may exist, personal animosities should not.
As a Lok Sabha member from Lucknow, Singh noted that Gupta never treated politics as a business; instead, he viewed it as a means of service, which is why he remained immensely popular among the people of Uttar Pradesh.
The Defense Minister also reminisced about Gupta's efforts to exempt the film 'Hamara Sansar,' which depicted the struggles of farmers, from entertainment tax. After watching the film, Gupta promptly contacted then Chief Minister Sucheta Kriplani to ensure it was tax-free.
