Political Climate Heats Up in West Bengal

As the second phase of elections approaches in West Bengal, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh intensified the political atmosphere by reaffirming the NDA's commitment to removing criminals from the state following their return to power. During a roadshow in Hooghly, Singh outlined the NDA's promises to the people of West Bengal, emphasizing welfare for farmers and youth, along with improved infrastructure.

Singh stated, "I have already mentioned that there will be no goons left in Bengal. If they remain, they will be behind bars... We will strengthen law and order. We will ensure fair prices for farmers, provide jobs for the youth, and construct better roads. All infrastructure will be developed." This statement aligns with the aggressive campaign being waged by BJP's top leadership against those they label as TMC goons.

Earlier, on April 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a final warning to goons and gangs to surrender before the upcoming 2026 West Bengal elections. Addressing a BJP rally in Bishnupur, Modi said, "I am giving all TMC goons, gangs, and corrupt elements one last chance. Surrender at your nearest police station before April 29. After May 4, no one will be spared. Mafia and TMC gangs in Bishnupur, listen carefully, this will no longer be tolerated."

On April 14, Home Minister Amit Shah harshly criticized the Trinamool Congress government over the issue of infiltration, stating that a BJP government in West Bengal would allocate the necessary land to complete the border fencing with Bangladesh. While addressing rallies in the election-bound state, he also warned TMC goons not to step out during the voting process. He cautioned, "I am warning all TMC goons not to leave their homes; otherwise, your time will be up after May 5."
