Rajnath Singh's Address on India's Strength and Veterans' Role

On Wednesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that India has emerged as a robust and developed nation. He noted that previously, India was not taken seriously on international platforms, but now, when India speaks, the world listens. During his speech at the 10th Armed Forces Veterans Day event held at the Manekshaw Centre in the national capital, he urged veterans to continue guiding the nation and highlighted the importance of promoting social harmony.

Singh reiterated that India is progressing as a powerful and developed country. He pointed out that the global perception of India has changed significantly, and social harmony is now a pressing need. He acknowledged that veterans play a crucial role in shaping the future of India across various sectors. Singh mentioned that former soldiers are contributing to fields such as education, agriculture, and disaster management, and he regarded them as vital pillars of the nation.

According to Singh, many veterans are actively involved in diverse areas, from education to agriculture and disaster management. The government recognizes that both serving and retired soldiers are essential to the nation. Just as significant decisions at home are made with the counsel of elders, the contributions of veterans are equally important. He highlighted various initiatives taken by the government for veterans, recalling those who served during Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka and emphasizing the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, which provides financial stability to former soldiers.

He also expressed his remembrance of soldiers who served as part of the Indian Peacekeeping Force in Sri Lanka, many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice. Their bravery should inspire us all. The government acknowledges the contributions of peacekeepers involved in the Pawan mission. Prime Minister Modi visited their memorial during his trip to Sri Lanka in 2015, and we continue to honor them at the war memorial in Delhi. The implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme is not a favor from the government; it is a matter of justice for you.
