Rajinder Singh Sr., a former hockey player and recipient of the Dronacharya Award, expressed his heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acknowledging his contributions during the Mann Ki Baat program. He noted that this recognition serves as a motivation not only for him but also for his colleagues and the broader sports community. Singh emphasized the mission of RoundGlass Academy, which aims to discover talent in rural areas, equip young athletes with essential resources, and nurture them to represent India on the international stage. He is optimistic that the academy will continue to develop more players for the national team. "I am profoundly thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his kind words about my journey and the accomplishments over the last 40 to 45 years. This recognition inspires me, my colleagues, and the entire sports fraternity. I also want to highlight RoundGlass's vision, led by Gurpreet Singh Sunny, to reach out to villages, scout talent, and provide necessary facilities for players. I believe our academy will keep growing and produce many more athletes for India," Singh stated.
PM Modi Commends Rajinder Singh's Contributions
During his recent Mann Ki Baat broadcast, Prime Minister Modi praised Rajinder Singh for his dedication to nurturing hockey talent. Singh, who won a gold medal at the 1980 Olympics and a silver medal at the Asian Games, has also led India to victory in the 2001 Junior Men's World Cup and the 2003 Asia Cup. Notably, he was the top scorer in the 1982 Hockey World Cup, netting 12 goals. "In Punjab, Rajinder Singh ji exemplifies this commitment. He is a distinguished figure, having been part of the gold medal-winning team at the 1980 Olympics and excelling at the 1982 World Cup. Under his coaching, India secured the Men's Junior World Cup title in 2001 and the Senior Asia Cup title in 2003," the Prime Minister remarked.
