Jaipur, Nov 7: Authorities in Rajasthan have dismantled a prostitution ring disguised as traditional settlements (deras) in the Bhawanimandi region of Jhalawar district, revealing that families were allegedly trafficking their own minor daughters, according to police reports.
During the operation, six girls aged between 12 and 17 were rescued, and five individuals, including some of the victims' mothers and alleged intermediaries, were apprehended.
Medical assessments indicated that five of the girls had endured ongoing sexual exploitation, with two diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Budhania stated that the investigation commenced after a confidential tip-off was received on October 7. Initial inquiries suggested that families residing in the Bhawanimandi area were coercing their minor daughters into prostitution under the guise of cultural practices.
Following the exposure of the racket, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, led by probationary IPS officer Ayush Shrotriya. Team members Rahul Samaria and Chandrashekhar went undercover in the settlements equipped with spy cameras.
Their covert operation reportedly captured digital evidence of transactions related to the prostitution activities.
Based on the evidence collected, police mobilized over 100 personnel across 15 teams to execute simultaneous raids in the settlements, resulting in the rescue of six minor girls.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team also gathered evidence from the sites, seizing a significant amount of incriminating materials. Medical examinations confirmed that five of the rescued girls had suffered repeated sexual abuse, with two diagnosed with STIs.
Forensic analysis revealed male DNA in samples collected during the investigation, with reports indicating the presence of mixed male DNA in four cases, further substantiating the sexual exploitation claims.
The FSL provided its report within 24 hours, as per police statements. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, along with Sections 5/6, 11/12, and 17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The rescued minors have been relocated to a shelter home for girls to ensure their safety and rehabilitation. The five suspects are currently in police custody for a three-day remand to facilitate further questioning.
The investigation continues to uncover the full scope of the trafficking operation and identify additional individuals involved in the exploitation of these minors.
