Jaipur, Nov 3: Following a recent ragging incident in Barmer, another case has emerged from Jodhpur. The administration at Dr SN Medical College has suspended 19 individuals, including a junior resident, after investigating allegations of ragging and misconduct involving junior MBBS students.
Among those suspended, five—including the junior resident—will face a three-month suspension, while the other 14 students will be suspended for one month.
During their suspension, these individuals will not be allowed to participate in clinical postings, academic activities, or educational programs. Additionally, they will be prohibited from accessing college hostels, libraries, and reading rooms.
This action was prompted by a complaint submitted through the University Grants Commission's (UGC) anti-ragging helpline. An inquiry conducted by the college's anti-ragging committee found the accused guilty of serious misconduct, inappropriate behavior, and undue pressure on junior students, leading to the suspension orders from the Principal's office.
According to the complaint, first-year MBBS students reported that senior students had subjected them to intimidation, humiliation, and inappropriate behavior, along with imposing arbitrary rules.
The conflict reportedly began during a 'Clean Campus Drive' held on October 28, where junior students claimed that seniors from the 2025 batch were enforcing strict grooming standards, including being clean-shaven, maintaining specific hairstyles, standing for long periods, and wearing formal attire.
After the incident, the junior students contacted the UGC's anti-ragging helpline, which led the college administration to launch an inquiry.
This recent action is particularly noteworthy as it marks the second ragging complaint at the medical college within a month.
Following the escalation of the issue to the UGC, the anti-ragging committee conducted an investigation and recommended disciplinary measures.
The college administration's actions aim to combat ragging and foster a safe academic environment for newly admitted students.
Previously, the Government Medical College in Barmer, Rajasthan, took disciplinary measures against 80 students after an inquiry revealed that seniors had subjected juniors to obscene WhatsApp messages, verbal abuse, and mental harassment. The penalties were imposed following an investigation and recommendations from its Anti-Ragging Committee.
