Rajasthan Government Celebrates Medal Achievements
The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, recognized the state's medal winners from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and other international competitions during a ceremony at the Constitution Club of Rajasthan. This event took place on Saturday, where the athletes were celebrated for their outstanding performances, and the state government awarded incentive cheques to honor their accomplishments.
Highlights of the Felicitation Ceremony
Among the honored athletes was boxer Arundhati Choudhary, who clinched gold in the women's 70kg category at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. For her remarkable achievement, the Kota-born boxer received a reward of Rs 1 crore.
Javelin thrower Yashvir Singh, who secured a bronze medal at the CWG, was awarded Rs 30 lakh. Additionally, Indian para-shooter Mona Agarwal, who earned bronze at the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup in Novi Sad, Serbia, received Rs 2 lakh for her performance in the R2 women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event, scoring 228.2.
Wrestler Sandhya Bishnoi, who took home silver in the 46kg category at the U-17 World Wrestling Championships 2026, was awarded Rs 11,000. She expressed her happiness, stating, 'I am very happy. I will aim to win the gold medal next time. My father and coach have provided immense support.'
Government's Dedication to Sports Development
During the felicitation event, Chief Minister Sharma emphasized that the nation's sporting culture is flourishing, thanks to the government's sports policies and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a post shared on X, Sharma stated, 'Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and his robust sports policies, the sports culture in our country is gaining new direction and strength, allowing our athletes to elevate India's prestige on global platforms.' The ceremony was also attended by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Jogaram Patel, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Rathore, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports K.K. Vishnoi.
India's Boxing Triumph at CWG 2026
Arundhati showcased an impressive performance in the women's 70kg final in Glasgow, defeating England's Chantelle Reid with a unanimous 5-0 decision, contributing to India's tally of seven boxing gold medals at the Games.
India had a remarkable boxing campaign, leading the medal standings with seven gold and three silver medals, surpassing the previous record of six boxing golds held by England and Canada.
Overall Performance and Future Prospects
India wrapped up its Commonwealth Games 2026 journey in Glasgow with a total of 39 medals: 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze, finishing fourth overall. The Glasgow Games also marked the start of India's preparations to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, with the Commonwealth Games flag ceremonially handed over during the closing ceremony.
