Key Meeting on Energy Sector Development

In Jaipur, a significant review meeting was held under the leadership of Chief Secretary V. Srinivasan at the government secretariat on Monday. This meeting aimed to enhance the financial health of the electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs), expand energy infrastructure, and assess the progress of renewable energy initiatives.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that ensuring the financial strength of DISCOMs alongside the development of the energy sector is a top priority for the state government. He highlighted the need for financial discipline, the adoption of modern technologies, and the timely implementation of renewable energy projects.

Benefits of Battery Energy Storage Systems

During the meeting, the progress of pilot projects for Battery Energy Storage Systems was reviewed. The Chief Secretary noted that this technology is crucial for effectively storing excess electricity generated from the PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme and other solar projects. It will reduce the need to purchase expensive electricity during peak hours, leading to significant annual financial savings for DISCOMs, which will ultimately benefit consumers. He instructed that these projects should be implemented within the set timelines, with locations already identified in various circles of Jaipur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur DISCOMs.

Strengthening Financial Stability through Debt Restructuring

The Chief Secretary also reviewed the progress of debt restructuring for DISCOMs, stating that re-pricing high-interest loans from REC and PFC has resulted in substantial annual interest savings. He directed effective coordination and discussions with relevant financial institutions to ensure the swift re-pricing of remaining high-interest loans.

Accelerating Green Energy Corridor Projects

V. Srinivasan reviewed the ongoing construction works under Phase II of the Green Energy Corridor in Hanumangarh and Udaipur, instructing that these projects be completed within the designated timelines. He mentioned that the completion of these projects would facilitate the smooth transmission of renewable energy and further modernize and strengthen Rajasthan's transmission network.

Promoting PM Surya Ghar Scheme

The Chief Secretary directed the preparation of an effective information, education, and communication (IEC) plan to ensure that the PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme reaches as many beneficiaries as possible, alongside a comprehensive public awareness campaign.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the energy department, including Secretary and Chairperson of DISCOMs, Ms. Aarti Dogra, as well as managing directors from Jaipur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur DISCOMs, representatives from REC and PFC, and Resident Commissioner Rohit Kumar via video conference.
